The Armor We Carry Around
Kevin McCarthy, and Likky Lavji
The “armor” we carry around can refer to the emotional barriers or defenses we put up to protect ourselves from emotional pain or vulnerability. This can manifest in various ways, such as:
- Walls: We might build walls around ourselves to keep others out and protect ourselves from getting hurt.
- Denial: We might deny or repress our feelings to avoid dealing with them.
- Perfectionism: We might strive for perfection in an attempt to avoid criticism or failure.
- Avoidance: We might avoid certain situations or people that trigger painful emotions.
- Control: We might try to control everything in our lives as a way to manage anxiety or fear.
